EXPANSION JOINT SYSTEMS

What is an Expansion Joint ?
An expansion joint is a “ Gap” or “ Separation” that is engineered to
completely divide a building from top to bottom and from side to side
allowing for independent movement of each structure.
What happens when you don't have Expansion Joints ?
Any
movement in the building structure would be transferred to building
finishes such as drywall (gypsum board), ceramic tile, marble of
granite in the form of unsightly cracks.
What is an Expansion Joint Cover ?
An expansion joint cover is typically
manufactured from extruded aluminium designed to conceal the expansion
joint and to accommodate anticipated engineered movement the
structure.
Expansion Joint Cover Criteria
Joint
size & Anticipated Movement - The first thing an architect must look at
when selecting an expansion joint cover is the size of the
joint required and the anticipated movement the expansion
joint cover must accommodate.
